Ballarat Light Car Club

Body:

Officially the Ballarat Light Car Club came into being in 1991 but in reality the club was formed in 1949 as a branch of the Light Car Club of Australia.

The parent club fell into serious financial difficulties after the failure of some very high risk projects in the late 1980s and astute local members could see that its likely demise would destroy the Ballarat Branch also.

In consequence the committee of the time carefully worked through the process of dissolving the Branch and creating a new club. This was skillfully done so as to have the new club retain the majority of assets of the old club.

Since then the BLCC has continued to grow in numbers. The club runs an Autocross and, Motorkhana Series, Khanacross, the Begonia Rally, the Winter Classic tour and two rounds of the State Hillclimb championship. 2013 will see BLCC also run for the 1st time a round of the VCAS autocross series.

Over many years the BLCC has work tirelessly on the Motorsport complex with track development and facilities, which of recent has come under threat at the Ballarat airport due to a new employment opportunity development at the airport. But in true BLCC spirit we will work towards building a new complex when the time comes.
